Costco recalls more than 200,000 ceiling fans that can fall
Hunter Contempo is recalling two ceiling fan models sold at Costco that can injure consumers due to incorrect installation directions.The recall affects model numbers 59176 and 59174.The owner’s manual instructed buyers to install the light globe improperly, which can cause it to fall, leading to risk of injury. The model number can be found on top of the fan's motor housing. The fan comes with five reversible blades and has a 54-inch blade span. Model 59176 has cherry and dark walnut blades, while model 59174 has light gray oak and gray walnut blades.Consumers are advised to check that the light globe was put in correctly by turning it clockwise until it sits firmly in place. Costco and Hunter are contacting all known purchasers and providing new instructions for installing the globe.There have been 38 reports of the light falling in the U.S. No injuries have been reported.Hunter can be reached at 1-866-326-2003 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., CT, Monday through Friday, or online at www.hunterfan.com.The fans were sold at Costco stores nationwide and online at Costco.com from January 2016 through August 2017 for about $130.
