Uncertainty around tariffs and the start-pause of ā€œreciprocalā€ tariffs from the Trump administration has led to many consumers being on edge about what the cost of goods and services could look like. One product thatā€™s gotten a lot of attention is sneakers. Thatā€™s because according to the Associated Press, about 97% of the clothes and shoes purchased in the U.S. are imported, predominantly from Asia. The AP cited the American Apparel & Footwear Associationā€™s most recent data, and some of those major companies that do import from Asia are lululemon, Nike and Walmart. According to MarketWatch, when President Donald Trump revealed his ā€œreciprocalā€ tariffs on Apr. 2, it prompted rush spending from sneaker enthusiasts. Trump has since enacted a 90-day pause on those tariffs, but the pause does not include China, whose products are subject to a minimum 145% tariff. We thought one way we could help you navigate your spending was to highlight the savings sections you need to know about from brands and retailers with respect to footwear.
