Colfax-Mingo soccer didn't exist a year ago.
"I never thought there would be a soccer program here, and it's nice," freshman Meadow Lane said.
After decades of combining with other schools, Colfax-Mingo formed its own team this season under the leadership of head coach Zach Tomas. They had the numbers to start their own squad, and here they are.
"It just shows how much the girls love the sport," assistant coach McKinzie Tjaden said. "It shows that they weren't content with playing for someone. They wanted to play for their school."
Senior Lily Webster agrees.
"We're definitely more connected," she said. "We go to school together. We see each other every single day."
Colfax-Mingo's first season is off to a smashing start. They are 3-0 and have one of the top scorers in the state in freshman Meadow Lane. In three games the freshman has 15 goals.
"It does not feel like 15," she said.
The Tigerhawks look to keep it going this season with a message to the players.
"We can make this whatever you want it to be," Tjaden said. "This is our fresh start."
