SOME BIG CELEBRATIONS. PLANNING ON LA CROSSE PLANNING ON. THANK YOU DENNIS. THE GAME THIS WEEKEND WILL HAVE A SPECIAL MEANING TO ONE FAN. YEAH, SHE HAD TO BE RUSHED TO A HOSPITAL DURING A GAME TWO YEARS AGO. KMBC NINE’S ALAN SHOPE HAS THEIR EMOTIONAL RETURN. I WANTED TO BRING YOU GUYS SOME TREATS. IT WAS A HAPPY RETURN FOR 23 YEAR-OLD. AMANDA STEINBACH. IT’S CRAZY BEING BACK IN HERE. IT WAS JANUARY OF 2022 DURING THAT CRAZY CHIEFS BILLS 13 SECOND GAME. THE THEN 21 YEAR OLD WATCHING HER FAVORITE FOOTBALL TEAM WHEN SHE STARTED HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ANXIETY. AND THEN TURNS OUT A COUPLE HOURS LATER IT WAS NOT. AMANDA’S PARENTS RUSHED HER TO THE E.R. AT SAINT LUKE’S EAST. MY BLOOD PRESSURE WAS LOW. SCAN SHOWED SHE HAD A MASSIVE BLOOD CLOT AND THOUSANDS OF SMALLER CLOTS IN HER LUNGS. SHE HAD AN ACUTE PULMONARY EMBOLISM. DOCTORS SAY THIS WAS A LIFE THREATENING CONDITION BECAUSE SHE WAS BASICALLY IN RESPIRATORY FAILURE. WHEN SHE CAME TO THE HOSPITAL. SCARY STUFF FOR AMANDA AND HER FAMILY. THEY TOLD ME I HAD A THOUSAND PLUS BLOOD CLOTS. AMANDA SPENT MORE THAN A MONTH HERE AT SAINT LUKE’S ON THE PLAZA AND DEVELOPED SOME PRETTY GOOD FRIENDSHIPS WITH SEVERAL OF THE NURSES HERE, AND THAT’S WHY SHE WANTED TO COME BACK AND THANK THEM. I DIDN’T REALIZE HOW SICK I WAS, AND THIS CHIEFS FAN WHO CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS WEEKEND’S GAME, SAYS SHE’S HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO WATCH MORE GAMES AND THE SPECIAL RETURN JUST TO THANK EVERYBODY. AND SO BECAUSE THEY TRULY DID SAVE MY LIFE ON THE PLAZA ALAN SHOPE KMBC NINE NEWS. WELL, AMANDA IS NOW IN COLLEGE TO BECOME A TEACHER AN

Thursday marked an incredible reunion for 23-year-old Amanda Steinbach.It all started in January 2022, during that crazy Chiefs-Bills '13 seconds' Divisional Round playoff game.The then-21-year-old was watching her favorite football team when she started having trouble breathing.“I thought it was just anxiety, and then it turns out a couple of hours later it was not!" Steinbach tole KMBC 9 with a laugh.When the shortness of breath didn’t stop, Steinbach’s parents rushed her to the emergency room at St. Luke's East Hospital.“My blood pressure was low," she recalled.Scans showed she had a massive blood clot and thousands of smaller clots in her lungs.“She had an acute pulmonary embolism," Dr. Jacob Shepherd with St. Luke’s Health Systems shared.Doctors said it was a life-threatening condition. According to Shepard, she was nearly in respiratory failure when she came to the hospital.The 1,000-plus blood clots were terrifying for Steinbach and her family.On Thursday, the 23-year-old returned to where she spent more than a month in 2022, St. Luke's on the plaza. She developed good friendships with several nurses who helped her through the challenging event. That’s why she wanted to come back and thank them.She’s still a Chiefs fan. Like everyone else, she can't wait for this weekend’s game. She’s just happy to be able to watch more games."Just want to thank everybody because they truly did save my life," Steinbach said.
