A Central Iowa robotics team is headed to Texas to compete against hundreds of teams from around the world.
Atomic Narwhals is made up of 14 seventh through 12th-grade students from multiple metro schools. They've spent dozens of hours building and programming robots since September. All the planning and practicing come down to a two-and-a-half-minute competition. The goal is to drop as many blocks in a bin or hang a block on a bar to score as many points as possible.
On the sidelines helping the team is Coach Smita Volz
"It has been such a journey. The kids have worked so hard and for so long to get here," Volz said. "All their hard work finally coming to fruition."
The FIRST Championship is happening April 16 to 19 in Houston, Texas.
