One more game: Hawkeyes' historic run reaches NCAA Tournament championship game
MAKING HISTORY LAST NIGHT. CAITLIN CLARK AND I WERE WOMEN KNOCKED OUT UNDER DEFEATED SOUTH CAROLINA’S 77 TO 73. THAT BROKE THE GAMECOCKS 42 GAME, WINNING STREAK AND IT PLUNGED THE HAWKEYES. THEIR TICKET TO THE NCAA FINAL. CLARK’S CHAMPIONSHIP MINDSET HAS BEEN KEY IN PUSHING THE HAWKEYE WOMEN THROUGHOUT THIS TOURNAMENT. BUT SHE CREDITS HER TEAMMATES FOR ALWAYS BELIEVING, DESPITE NOT BEING THE FAN FAVORITE TO BE AN UNDEFEATED SOUTH CAROLINA TEAM. PROBABLY EVERYBODY IN AMERICA PICKED SOUTH CAROLINA, DESERVEDLY SO. THERE HAVE BEEN RANKED NUMBER ONE ALL YEAR. THEY’VE WON 42 STRAIGHT BASKETBALL GAMES, YOU KNOW. WHY WOULDN’T YOU PICK THEM? BUT AT THE SAME TIME, THE PEOPLE IN OUR LOCKER ROOM BELIEVED IN US. AND THAT’S ALL YOU NEED IS A BELIEF IN ONE ANOTHER. YOU KNOW, WE’RE CLEARLY NOT AS TALL AS THEM OR CLEARLY NOT AS ATHLETIC AS THEM. BUT I THINK WE’RE A VERY, VERY SKILLED BASKETBALL TEAM, YOU KNOW, THAT LOVES ONE ANOTHER. AND THAT’S GOING TO GET YOU REALLY, REALLY FAR. THE IOWA WOMEN ARE HEADED TO THEIR FIRST EVER NCAA TOURNAMENT FINAL IN SCHOOL HISTORY. THEY’L FACED OFF AGAINST THREE SEEDED LSU TIGERS FOR ALL THE MARBLES. THAT GAME TIPS OFF TOMORROW AT 230 IN THE AFTERNOON. AND YOU CAN CATCH THAT ON ABC. IOWA FANS WHO MADE THE TRIP SOUTH MADE SURE THAT THEIR VOICES WERE HEARD. vlog MARCUS MCINTOSH IS IN DALLAS, TEXAS, AS WELL, AND HE SPOKE WITH FANS AFTER THE GAME AND THEY SAY THAT THEY’RE HAPPY THEY TOOK DOWN THE GAMECOCKS, BUT THEY DO KNOW THERE’S STILL ONE MORE GAME LEFT. IOWA FANS SAT IN THE STANDS OF AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER CHEERING THEIR TEAM ON TO VICTORY. AND ONCE THE GAME WAS OVER, THEY WERE JUST AS VOCAL. OH, MY GOD. THIS IS AMAZING. THAT KNOCKED OUT THE NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE NATION. WE DID. THE FANS TELL US THEY BELIEVE THE UNDERDOG HAWKS TOOK DOWN GOLIATH DUE TO THEIR GRIT AND DETERMINATION. IOWA OVERCAME A SERIOUS HEIGHT ADVANTAGE, BEING OUTREBOUNDED BY SOME 20 PLUS BOARDS. THE TRUTH IS, THEY REALLY DO NEED TO START BOXING OUT. THAT IS A PROBLEM. BUT MOST OF THE FANS ARE LIVING IN AND RELISHING THE FRIDAY NIGHT VICTORY. MOST FANS ARE POINTING TO CAITLIN CLARK’S 41 POINT GAME WITH GIVING THE TEAM THE EDGE AS TIME RAN OUT, INCLUDING CLARK’S SIXTH GRADE MATH TEACHER. SO PROUD OF THIS HAS BEEN HER DREAM FOREVER, AND SHE’S SO DETERMINED. PASSIONATE. WHO KNEW SHE WAS SPECIAL EARLY ON? OH, ABSOLUTELY. WE SAW IT COMING WHEN SHE WAS TEN OR GOT IT. BUT HAWKEYE FANS CAN’T RELISH IN THIS VICTORY FOR TOO LONG BECAUSE THERE IS STILL ONE GAME LEFT TO PLAY IN THAT GAME IS FOR THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. WE ARE ONE TEAM, FIVE ON THE COURT, TEN ON THE BENCH, AND WE ARE ONE TEAM TOGETHER. STRENGTH, UNITY, TOGETHERNESS. HARD WORK. WE WILL WIN. I’M SURE PAULA IS NOT THE ONLY HAWKEYE FAN WHO FEELS THAT WAY. IN DALLAS, MARCUS MACI
