Caitlin Clark's high school teammates discuss her impact
There are a lot of Hawkeye fans in central Iowa, but a small group is cheering especially loud for Caitlin Clark as the Iowa women's basketball team advances to the Sweet 16.
It wasn't that long ago, Clark was hitting threes and dishing out sweet assists at Dowling Catholic High School.
Her old teammates still remember the way she dominated Iowa girls basketball.
"Like, even though I was her teammate, she would do things and, like — oh wow! Like sometimes you couldn't expect what she would do but it made it fun to watch," said Julia Moore, a senior at Dowling who played with Clark in the 2020 season.
Her coach says she started getting calls from college recruiters before Caitlin's freshman year at Dowling.
"We did a team camp at Creighton and she had a couple passes in the live play that everyone in the gym where everyone in the gym just kind of stops and stares," said Kristin Meyers, the head coach for the Dowling Catholic girl's basketball team.
Her old teammates, who just finished their senior season at Dowling Catholic say it's been crazy to watch Caitlin become the queen of college basketball with the same style she played with while dominating in high school.
"She took us under her wing she was a good leader but definitely intimidating at her level," said Lauryn Frerichs, who played as a freshman when Clark was a senior. "She plays the same way but she's obviously improved a lot."
"It's really cool to say that that was her teammate. Telling people, yeah I played with her for a year," said Moore.
