Bride gets stuck in elevator on way to wedding reception
A Rhode Island bride missed cocktail hour at her own wedding reception after getting stuck in an elevator on the way.
According to Melissa Rodger was headed to the 18th floor of the Providence Biltmore when the elevator stopped just a few feet short of her destination.
“I was hoping that it would just take a minute,” she recalled. “Five minutes went by and I thought: ‘OK, something might be wrong.’”
Her new husband found out shortly after.
“One of her bridesmaids came up to me and whispered in my ear: ‘We have a situation that's going on,'” he said. “’Don’t be alarmed, but Melissa is stuck in the elevator.’”
Firefighters pried open the elevator doors but rescuers were concerned about getting the bride out without ruining her wedding dress.
“We were prepared to get her honeymoon clothes down to her so she could change so she could crawl out," Providence battalion Chief Jay Viens.
Fortunately, an elevator technician got the lift back up. It was stalled for 45 minutes.
The couple took the setback in stride, saying it will make a great memory.
