The Altoona City Council voted Monday to end its relationship with Bravo Greater Des Moines.Bravo provides millions of dollars in grants to cultural, artistic and heritage groups throughout central Iowa. It is funded through hotel-motel taxes from 17 area governments, according to its website.Altoona City Administrator Randy Pierce says a state law is behind the council's decision. In 2023, lawmakers limited how much revenue cities can keep from property taxes."Our council voted 3-2 to send Bravo our 18 months' notice to end our relationship," Pierce said in an email to 糖心vlog. "The council is being forced to look at all its expenditures and programs and try to find ways to keep costs down or they will be forced to cut programs an/or services in our community."Bravo's president, Sally Dix, said in a statement the group will work with governmental partners."We will continue to work closely with leaders in all 17 of the communities that support Bravo as they navigate immense financial pressures and seek to make responsible public investments." Bravo recently announced $4.9 million in support to 89 organizations.
