Keeping your home safe starts at the front door.

Wiping your feet and taking off your outside shoes will help minimize germs inside in general.

Dr. Alexander Rabin, a pulmonary critical care physician at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, says being COVID-19 safe is mainly about good ventilation.

"Coronavirus is spread thru the droplets; In other words, from person-to-person contact," Rabin said. "Just by opening the windows on opposite sides of the room is a great way to protect you and your family from spreading coronavirus."

Keeping your home clean and wiping down high touch surfaces to minimize germs are also important.

"I wouldn't go overboard," Rabin said. "Cleaners can have toxins that are harmful to our health."

Air purifiers are helpful for asthma and allergy sufferers, but Rabin said he isn't convinced about their effectiveness for COVID-19.

"It can't hurt, but don't run out to get one just to protect yourself from coronavirus if you don't have any other compelling reason to get one," Rabin said.
