It's Monday morning. You're on your way to work, and maybe running late. The last thing you want to deal with is the hassle of topping off your gas tank.
That's exactly why you should.
just published the results of a new study, done in tandem with gas prices app GasBuddy, which sought to find the cheapest days of the week to buy fuel. Mondays are the least expensive day of the week in most states, while a few states have slightly lower prices on Tuesday. Only two of the 50 states returned a result other than Monday or Tuesday.
As far as the worst days to fill up, you won't be surprised to learn they fall on the weekend. Saturday was the worst offender in the largest number of states, followed closely by Friday and Sunday, then Thursday.
Utah, by the way, is America's gas price outlier. Gas there is its cheapest on Sunday (a pricey day in other states) and it's most expensive on Tuesday (a cheap day in the other states). The Beehive State doesn't need your rules.
What's with the weekly ups and downs in gas prices? Plain old supply and demand. People want gas on Friday before their weekend errands or adventures. They don't want to buy it on Monday or Tuesday when the work week presents more pressing problems.
There you have it: Fill up your gas tank on Monday, go grocery shopping on Friday night, and do whatever you want to do during the Super Bowl. Sometimes saving money and steering clear of lines is all about zigging when other people zag.
