Beer and Bible readings: Church plans to open brewery, serve during service
A California pastor is planning to open a religious space with a brewery, where parishioners can order a pint and pray.
The Greater Purpose Community Church in Santa Cruz began having services at a food lounge after selling their worship space. The community lounge where they now meet includes beer on tap.
“There’s nothing in the Bible that says you can’t drink alcohol in a responsible manner,” Pastor Chris VanHall .
Now he wants to take that a step further: having a religious space with a brewery.
"Wouldn't it be great if a church could figure out a way to make a product where they split the profits with local community service organizations?” VanHall said. “We were like, 'Hey, we love beer, we love making beer, why not do a brewery?'”
He added that his sermon is better after a couple beers, anyway.
