How much should a babysitter really cost? That depends where you live.
In , UrbanSitter asked more than 20,000 families about the going rate for babysitters in their area and how much they spend on childcare each year. Unsurprisingly, certain cities were costlier — for example, babysitters in San Francisco charged the highest average rate, around $17.34 an hour.
The survey — which looks at parents' hiring practices, date night habits and childcare priorities — covers plenty of ground, but one nugget that sticks out? That nearly half of the parents surveyed (48 percent) spend at least $1,000 a year on childcare.
