Hoops hysteria at Hilton: Cy-Hawk showdown draws fans to the court

HAVE TO LOOK VERY HARD TO FIND SOME DIEHARDS. CY-HAWK SHOWDOWN IS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE FANS EXCITED, BUT THIS TIME THERE’S EVEN MORE TO CHEER FOR. WRAPPED AROUND THE HILTON COLISEUM. ANTICIPATION IS BUILDING THIS RIVALRY, SO IT’S GOING TO BE A CLOSE GAME. CY-HAWK SHOWDOWN IS DRAWING FANS TO THE COURT. THE ATMOSPHERE JUST LIKE HILTON MAGIC AND JUST LIKE HANGING OUT WITH OUR FRIENDS, LIKE OUR FAVORITE TIME TO BE TOGETHER THIS TIME, THE MATCHUP IS ONE OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE OF NUMBER ONE. IT’S CY-HAWK. THAT’S ALWAYS GOING TO BE A VERY GOOD GAME. AND NUMBER TWO, YOU’RE GOING TO BE AGAINST ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY AND CAITLIN CLARK. I THINK WOMEN’S SPORTS HAVE DEFINITELY PICKED UP HERE AT IOWA STATE JUST LIKE BETTER ATTENDANCE, BETTER LIKE THE ATMOSPHERE AND EVERYTHING. AND I THINK IOWA STATE ATHLETICS HAS DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB ON JUST KIND OF INTEGRATING THAT. IF LIKE LITTLE ME SAW THIS, SHE WOULD BE SO HAPPY GROWING UP, BEING A GIRL WHO PLAYED BASKETBALL, ALL YOU KIND OF GET HATE A LITTLE BIT LIKE PEOPLE DON’T REALLY SUPPORT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AND IT’S A LITTLE DEGRADING AT TIMES, BUT IT’S JUST COOL TO SEE THIS AMOUNT OF PEOPLE SUPPORT SOMETHING THAT I HAVE A PASSION FOR. AND TOMORROW, SOME OF THESE FANS DOING IT ALL OVER IT AGAIN TO SEE THE MEN IN THEIR 630 MATCHUP

Fans surrounded Hilton Coliseum hours before the doors opened in hopes of snagging the closest seats to the court to see Iowa State take on their rival, Iowa, at the Cy-Hawk Women's basketball showdown on Wednesday.This year, fans were extra amped for the game because both teams are fairing well."Number one, it's Cy-Hawk that's always going to be a very good game, and number two, you're going to be against one of the best players in the country, Caitlin Clark, so it's going to be a very good test for our team to see where they're at," Iowa State student and fan Cody Vansylalom said.Some Iowa State fans said while they were excited to cheer on their team, they were also interested to see Caitlin Clark on the court.But fans say this level of anticipation to see the women's teams face off is a newer phenomenon, made possible by the two teams' performances in recent years."Women's sports have definitely picked up, I would say better attendance, better atmosphere and everything, and I think I would say athletics has done a pretty good job on integrating that," Iowa State student Graca Goettsch said.
