When director of photography Galina Hutchins died after being struck by a live round from a gun fired by baldwin according to a santa fe county Sheriff's affidavit that was used to obtain a search warrant. Baldwin had been handed a firearm ahead of the gun discharged by assistant director Dave hauls who said it was a quote cold gun meaning it wasn't loaded to rehearse a scene baldwin's call for police to be present on sets with guns. Comes a few months after a group of activists renewed their demands that studios stopped using police on set or events in the wake of George Floyd's killing by a police officer and the ensuing protests against police brutality and racism. The original demands were made by activist group BLD PWR AK build power as part of the Hollywood for black lives letters signed in an effort to divest Hollywood from police ties and push the industry to invest more in black creators for more on this story. Actor Alec Baldwin is calling for all film and TV sets that use guns to employ a police officer on site to monitor for weapon safety. The actor tweeted the following Monday morning:“Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by production, to specifically monitor weapons safety.” The tweet comes nearly two weeks after the actor fired a .45-caliber revolver during rehearsal on the Santa Fe set of "Rust," killing director of photography, Halyna Hutchins and wounding director, Joel Souza. Baldwin told paparazzi following him in Vermont that he was in favor of safety protocol changes in the film industry. “It's urgent, it's urgent that you understand that I am not an expert on this field. So, what other people decide is the best way to go, in terms of protecting people's safety on film sets, I'm all in favor of it. I will cooperate in any way that I can,” Baldwin said.
