A doctor has been living in a tent to quarantine from his family for a month
It has been a month since Dr. Ben Kerr, a surgeon in Mississippi, .
He's shared some of the hardest parts of roughing it over the past several weeks.
A couple thunderstorms tested his commitment.
"My wife sent me a text in the middle of the night not too long ago and said she would understand if I wanted to come back inside and sleep on the couch," he said, "Or one of the kids' rooms where they were sleeping, but I stuck it out. It hasn't been bad."
Caring for his kids from a distance has also been a challenge — whether it's keeping the sibling rivalry at bay or helping with homework — but it's also kept him busy.
"It has become a relationship at a distance," Kerr said. "My 11-year-old (and I have) a nightly meeting at the window. I'll sit down with my cell phone and she'll sit down with her cell phone. We will talk and go over the schoolwork of the day.
"It's nonstop, and we try to handle the routine as much as we can from a distance. Overall it's gone pretty well."
