WEBVTT 100 Iowans raced their way into the Guinness Book of World Records! Some of the state's top distance runners made their way to Johnston to be a part of history. Ben Jordan joins us from Johnston with the story. <"TODD AND LAURA, I'M AT THE JOHNSTON SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TRACK WHERE THESE RUNNERS FROM ALL OVER THE STATE OF IOWA DIDN'T JUST BREAK THIS WORLD RECORD THEY CRUSHED IT BY MORE THAN 2 HOURS."> The 100 participants ran back to back in a 5 Kilometer relay race. The 28 hour relay Started Friday at noon, through the night under the stadium lights. <"77 LET'S GET AFTER IT YOU CAN DO IT BUD LET'S GO!"> The event was started by a couple college runners who decided they wanted to break a random Guinness World Record. This record was last set in North Carolina 2 years ago. To prove their world record, camera crews and track spotters caught the whole event. <"Nice job eric way to hammer it buddy let's go!"> By mid- afternoon today, the relay ended with glory. Runners say the world record is likely a once in a lifetime experience. <"IT PROBABLY WON'T KICK IN REALLY UNTIL TOMORROW OR THE NEXT DAY, BUT IT WILL BE A VERY COOL STORY TO TELL."> <"I EXPECTED IT. I KNEW WE HAD THE CALIBER OF ATHLETES, IT WAS JUST ABOUT THEM DOING IT."> <"THESE ORGANIZERS TELL ME THEY'RE ALREADY PLANNING TO FOR THEIR NEXT GUINNESS WORLD RECORD 100 RUNNERS IN THE ONE MILE RELAY AND THEY PLAN TO DO THAT NEXT YEAR. TODD." The record will be official in the 20-14 Guinness book of World Records.
